Overview Alexander Lawson, engraver, died in 1846, leaving behind a great quantity of his own and other artist's work. His daughters, Malvinia and Mary, constructed a scrapbook filled with these artworks, which they donated to the Academy. Scope and Contents

Engraved copper plates from which 10 of the illustrations of Wilson's American Ornithology were printed, namely pls. 1-5, 7-9 of vol. 1 and pls. 10-11 of v. 2. 26 x 33 cm. These were engraved by Alexander Lawson and are accompanied by a carbon of the letter of appreciation of the Academy to the donor.

Hammer lock double barreled shotgun, maybe 20 gauge. Probably walnut right-handed stock with raised cheek piece. Includes ramrod, with pineapple decor forward of the trigger guard.

Scope and Contents This volume represents a series of numbered sheets, continuing to no. 385, but with a great many gaps. Each sheet was repaired and the full gathering bound by a former librarian. Each carries a watercolor of a bird, the drawings seemingly copied from Alexander Wilson's American Ornithology. The volume was originally labeled: "Wilson's original drawings" but this note lightly crossed out and in the hand of E. J. Nolan another note "Not Wilson's drawings" inserted.
